Wanna See Something Crazy? Before & After...
Okay, so I'm 67 days sober as of today. And about a week ago, I took off my toenail polish in preparation for a pedicure. (Warning: It's not a pretty sight. This is what my toenails look like in the winter, LOL!)
In this picture, you see a definite change in the appearance of my toenails dating from the time I became sober (a little over two months ago). Note that the top of the nails, while I was drinking, are dark, brittle, and ridgy. The younger part of the nails, after I quit, are pink and smooth. A similar change has happened with my skin and hair!
My point is: Drinking puts a huge beat-down on your body and you become SO much healthier once you quit!

It's amazing the toll on our bodies from drinking. When I went in for detox four years ago, my hair was falling out in clumps. After a month of not drinking, it was all growing back in. For some reason, it's curly now, but I shave my head so it doesn't really matter. My skin was also so dry that I looked like I perpetually was recovering from a sun burn and my cuticles and finger tips were cracked and raw. Nasty business.

I shared this picture with a daily-drinking friend of mine and it started a really good conversation. He shared that he hasn't missed a day of drinking in decades, but he often feels tired and not at his best. ('Ya think?)
Based on the evidence in the picture, he wants to reduce drinking to every other day in order to improve his health and energy. I have no idea how feasible he'll find that. That question's beyond the scope of this post.
Point is: As we get better, we have the power to inspire others.
