I logged in today because I am 4 days sober. I am constantly trying to stop drinking but something always pulls me back. I've recognized the physical draw, the anxiety I'm trying to cover up, the worry about money and jobs and transportation and trying to make a better life for myself.

I just covered it all up and numbed myself with the alcohol. I didn't want to deal with things because I truly just felt so helpless.

But it's day 4, and I am hopeful and have been just focusing on the day, and getting things done. I've made calls I've put off about business, health insurance, appointments, those kinds of things.

I joined a gym and I've enlisted the help and support of my church.

I have a small support system of friends who are sober (or at least, don't have an alcohol problem) who are encouraging, but don't feel overbearing with constant check-ins and questions.

I actually feel quite confident I can do it this time. I haven't had a craving in these four days. It's strange though, because I almost walked into the liquor section at the grocery store the other day, not because I was thinking of buying anything, but because it was complete *habit*. How gross is that. :/

So, here's to making it stick this time, guys.

I have made a few posts lately about how easy it is for our body to do something without our mind knowing it. It pays to be vigilant!

Welcome back newrebirth

I think a good plan is one where we give thought to what our triggers are & how we might deal with them, & the necessary lifestyle changes we need to make.

I think finding an maintaining a regular support network is vital too

there are some great ideas here:

Welcome back NR. Sticking close to SR helped me tremendously in my early days. Lean on us when you need some help and before you are tempted to take a drink.

Glad you are posting.
