Hello

I've been lurking a while. Don't really know what to say, I just know it's time to change. I'm a 36 year old female with a beautiful husband and 3 year old son. Drink has dominated all of my adult life. I'm sick of the control it has over me and I'm sick of it spoiling my boys life.

Welcome Notwonderful, I'm happy to see you join the group. You will find many people here that can help you.

Speaking of which (might as well start right away), how about pretending the "Not" part of your username doesn't exist anymore?

Just go and see what happens. Everyone there was there for the first time once. I've never been to a meeting but have heard a lot about them. They are used to new people and will take that into consideration. I actually think you're going to have a good time.

I always find curiosity and enthusiasm better than fear and nervousness.

I'm not sure what you mean. It must be a problem on my side since my focus isn't that great at the moment. Could you explain what you mean?

I can relate to your being scared. Change is scary. But beating this addiction is going to take a lot of courage and fortitude on your part. AA would be a great start. Everyone in that room has been right where you are...on the cusp of sobriety and afraid. They'll understand.

I hope the meeting went okay! You don't have to say anything if you don't want to, just sit and listen.

Welcome to SR Notwonderful. As far as AA goes, listed to what Carl said. Everyone there has been in your shoes or similar ones.

After 20 years of heavy daily drinking, I was scared out of my mind of getting sober. Most of us here were. But I knew if I didn't change, my wife wouldn't have a husband and my kids wouldn't have a father before long. I also knew the quality of life I was contributing to my family was a complete lie when I was drinking all day. Putting the ones I love in an unfair situation because of my problem.

Bottom line, remember what you are fighting for. Use the strength you find in yourself and your family to make this happen.

Glad you found us. You can do this!

You know what to do. It is easier said than done.

Never drink again.

Get through the detox. Deal with the brain healing.

Make new habits that fill the extra time you will have from quitting.

Know it will take a while to settle into normalcy.

My PAWS was traumatic for me.

Start one day at a time. I learned to say...I am not drinking today. That worked.

Now I refuse to drink. Non drinker. Hate the stuff.

It gets better every moment.
