False Start

Well I made it three days last week and have no idea why I de used to drink on Thursday, but I drank the next three days. I don't even like being drunk anymore, I hate the anxiety I have the next day.
How do I get over the hump and stay sober, I do know I have to get to AA everyday somehow.
I am just embarrassed that I fell off so quickly.

To stay sober, you have to want to be sober more than you want to drink. It's not easy, but it's simple.

The good news is that today is a brand new day. I'm on day 12. Making a plan has really helped me. I've had to plan as I go. I didn't realize that late afternoons (especially towards the end of the week) had become a habit. So, instead of doing that, I take a break from work, go outside and work in the yard or play with dog for 15 minutes. I find that by the time I go back inside, it has passed. Only you know what is going to work for you. What would you like to do instead of drink?

Hi Augastine.....don't beat yourself up, just start again & don't look back, you can do this. Many here have had a false start.

My own willpower never seemed to get me far in isolation, instead I needed some support and resources to keep me focused on the task at hand.

All the fairytales our addiction tries to sell us can seem like great ideas without a second opinion on them, that's were support is valuable!!

You can do this!!

Thank you all for your support, I am feeling more resolve today than I did last week, I know it's just not worth the risk to my job etc. to keep waking up feeling like crap.

Augustine, I went through the same thing - knew I needed to stop, but needed further convincing. I don't know why it was so hard for me to acknowledge that there was nothing in it for me anymore. It's no longer fun or relaxing - and as you said, the aftermath of anxiety is awful. It sounds like you learned something - glad you are back for another try.
