45 Days

Third time must indeed be the charm because here I am at 45 days sober and not white-knuckling it.

Sober life is FINE. It's not the miserable gray existence I thought it would be. Of course, I've put the newfound time and energy to good use.

This time was also different because I didn't just repeat what hadn't worked in the past. I avoided the things that made my previous attempts at sobriety unsustainable, which for me were boredom, loneliness, the "moderation" fantasy, and the "disease" model/12-step programs.

I replaced these with new activities, social outreach, and a new fantasy in which I star as one of those sexy folks who doesn't drink. I continue to seek out others who are interested in reaching their personal potential because those are my true peeps.

I love saying, "No, thanks. I don't drink." And my new friends know me as a nondrinker. What a feeling of esteem!

Any Thoughts on 90?

I don't plan to count days forever because, like I constantly say, my personal plan is to put alcohol in the past. That includes drinking it, analyzing my addiction, and counting sober time.

BUT... I'm counting to 90 because I've heard from a number of credible sources that there are a few more positive changes which start to occur around the 90 day mark. Anyone care to expound?

SIS,

Cant recall anything special at 90 days, but I don't have a lot of trouble quitting -- sadly this means I have done so more than once.

Just wanted to pat you on the back, you have really focused on this process in a uniquely positive and practical way.

I think its great to treat this as a project, to have a project plan, with steps and goals and check in points. To break it down into action items based on requirements for success not just in not drinking but for building a life.
Like a whole grown-up thing.

I don't now if I told you but I have a little meeting occasionally with Dropsie Inc to take a reality check on how our little business called life is going based on the project plan, make adjustments. Need to do this more often.

Keep on trucking.

Congrats on 45 days sober! I counted days until I hit one year. Now I count years.

Congratulations on 45 days! 90 days was a non-issue for me, but it's always good to be prepared. It's good that you are making changes in your life to support your recovery. That's what will keep you going.

Congrats on 45 days! Glad to hear you aren't white-knuckling it. Life is full of opportunities and things to explore in sobriety, and I think even the simple things have a new appeal. I don't remember anything special happening at 90 days, but I do think it is a good milestone and it will be something you can be proud of. That's one quarter of a whole year, which is a whole lot longer than most of us had spent sober in a long time, if ever. What worked (and still works) for me is to keep focused on staying sober in the here and now. Keep it up!

Fantastic post, SoberinSyracuse. Congratulations on 45 sober days!!!!!

The 90-120 day mark was when I began to truly and deeply appreciate each sober day so it was a psychological turning point for me. Physically, the six month mark was significant, as that was when the lethargy and brain-fog began to lift.

That's awesome. I'm counting to 90 too. The first month has been more challenging than the first few weeks. Not due to cravings, but more due to the fact that I'm confronted with some pretty heavy feelings. I also feel exhausted all of the time.
