Dodged a bullet tonight

I'm about 7 weeks into being sober.

Cooking dinner for my kids ...
Homemade pizzas...yum !

Head out to the garage for the dough in the fridge we have out there.

Open the door... Notice the wine coolers left over from holidays. Which I haven't really thought about drinking because I never liked the taste.

But Tonight I thought ... Why not down 1 while getting the dough.

I think I'm over a "hump" because I grabbed a diet soda instead.

Ok.. Whew.

I will have another sober day AND night!

Glad you navigated your way through that Martin

I'm wondering if the wine coolers really need to be there tho?

Glad you didn't give in. Maybe get rid of the wine.

1??? That is pure craziness to believe you would only have 1 drink. That would just be the beginning and you may not regain your sobriety ever again. Glad you made the right decision.

Yeah... I thought this over a bit.

Mind you .. they never beckoned me before. In fact they have been there since New years ,, I could have hit them for the past 7 weeks. But didn't.

These are for guests that stop by... mainly my wife's friends or sister.

It wouldn't be cool for me to get rid of them. I have to be strong and there will be times I will be around booze. Just like driving past the store everyday....this is on me.

Hope this makes sense.

I'm lucky because we decided at the outset to not keep any alcohol in the house and it's helped me. When it's not there, it's not an issue.

Maybe your wife could get things from the garage fridge so you didn't need to go out there?

If you feel this might be a risk, rather than simply an AV surprise crave to ignore... perhaps keeping wine coolers out of the fridge (and out of sight)? Then have your wife pop a couple in to cool off when expecting company?

Good for you Martin. It's great that you can be around them and not have the auto chug reaction. Especially with Pizza! My wife still has a couple random drinks around the house and I like that I could have them. Great feeling bypassing them everyday.

Martin, nice shootin' there, taking a pass on that crap in the garage fridge. It must be liberating to know that you can do that and that stuff is not a risk for you anymore. I agree with you, that we are around alcohol and temptation every day. Some like to remove the temptation as a way to protect themselves, but I am with you. I prefer to understand that I can accept the temptation without risk of acting on it. I feel that is a better outcome for me in the end.

There is wine and beer in my house too. It's just not for me.
