Long walks in the early evening just as the "I should be drinking" feelings rare up.

It depends on the situation. I get a fair amount of exercise which helps overall anxiety and outlook.
For specific situations like elevators - I distract myself by saying the alphabet (to myself - usually) or counting backwards or reading the label on whatever I might see.

An outdoor walk is great.

I like listening to my favorite bands and pretty much any other type of music because one of my hobbies is music production. Sounds kinda cliche but it's true. My counselor worked with heroin addicts and said music was a good thing to fight cravings.

I've found that twice daily mindfulness meditation has helped keep anxiety from occurring. However, it must be practiced consistently, and it does take time for it to help. But the effort is well worth it IMO.

Walking the dog, exercise at the gym, a Pilates class and go for the burn (really it helps afterwards!). Also I can often get rid of some of the minor nervous energy by hoovering or having a clear out, not always, but worth a go and a clean house gives a feel good too.
xx

From someone who has suffered panic attacks for many years, I just tried the second exercise:

A breathing exercise that calms panic attacks.

It worked. And I learned something new that is incredibly helpful.

Thank you wolfie.
