The thought that a mother who lost her son to addiction, overdose, and then death would feel compelled to write an article defending the concept or reality of addiction is appalling. I say this because she was compelled in part by the ignorance she has had to face in the wake of her son's death. The example she provides about babies born addicted is brilliant and telling. Addiction-deniers are like holocaust-deniers or climate change-deniers; they're not living and reality, and what's worse, they're hateful.
