The big stigma of being depressed & sober
The big stigma of being depressed & sober
Great share Soberwolf!!
"Depression in sobriety comes as a shock to many because we were promised that our life would get better when we got sober. And in many cases, it does. You stop causing gargantuan piles of wreckage everywhere you go, for example – which is, on the whole, a good thing. But you also begin to believe that all your problems were just caused by drinking, and now things are going to be, if not a walk in the park, a walk down a pleasantly landscaped street. When that landscape turns into a series of crappy unmowed lawns and stubborn weeds, you realize that you have the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old (or whatever age it was you began to use drugs or alcohol) to cope with life."
So true

I think dual diagnosis is more common then many people realize. Depression, Bi-polar, PTSD, etc is why many have turned to self medicate with drugs or alcohol. I do like the article but with a word of caution on the anti-depressants.
Find a GOOD Therapist, not one that put's you on drugs right away. Trust me on this coming off Benzo's is a horrible detox.

"So we pretend not to exist. We pretend everything is fine."
Wow, can I relate to that and everything she said. Having that exact experience, getting into recovery only to find my Depression, anxiety, PTSD, waiting like monsters to swallow me up. Still struggling every day.
But it helps to read we're not alone. Thanks for posting Soberwolf.
