What comforts you?

In the beginning I drank for fun, for confidence, to be sociable, more lively etc...

But latterly I've drunk at home on my own. It's not always because I'm HAL or T, sometimes I'm happy, sad, fulfilled, proud, anything really...

But I think a lot of the time I drank for comfort and since being sober I'm relishing comfort that I find in other ways, here are a few...

Cocooning myself in the duvet and being all snug and warm in the morning waking up sober.

Enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit in the evening.

Choosing my food based on my mood, sometimes it just HAS to be roast lamb and gravy, or cheesy pasta.

What makes you feel good?

I like to get into bed early and read a book until my eyes get heavy. I forgot how much I love sleep and I look forward to a restful night every evening.

Spending time with my son.

Those days playing my guitar when it seems like the music says exactly what I'm feeling.

A hike on a pretty spring day.

A lover's hug.

A warm fireplace on a cold night.

I don't post here that much, but I log on for about an hour every night. Sometimes longer. I get so much comfort from "seeing" the mods' comments and some of my favorite regular members. I don't feel alone with my problem anymore like I did when I was drinking.

I love my tea and it has to be drunk at that perfect temperature of not boiling, but hot, terrible when it goes to just "warm" lol!

My 8 year old son is learning the guitar and he tries teaching me aswell, I need to do that more as I'd love to be able to play, it must be so therapeutic : )

Nothing beats good, honest sleep where your body is actually resting and rejuvenating instead of battling to rid itself of the poison you've ingested the night before.

I love to dance and sing. I am really a horrid singer, but I never sky away from singing in the car or even doing karaoke the few times I've come across it.
I also get great comfort from working in my yard/garden. I love mowing the grass, planting new things, pruning my roses and sawing dead limbs off trees. I just bought a nectarine tree over the weekend and will put that in the ground when I have decided on the right spot for it. I didn't do a winter garden but will start planing seeds for my summer garden in a few weeks. Last year I was full of peas, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, celery, carrots, strawberries and melons. My peppers didn't grow for some reason, but I'll try again this year.

Could count on one hand the times I've actually done this, but love being out very early on a weekend/non-work morning when you have the whole day ahead and you feel great. You can almost feel the anticipation in the air.

I've just started listening to a 'stop drinking' hypontherapy session on youtube. Regardless of the drinking aspect, it really relaxes me and I invariably drift off before the end. PM if you'd like a link.

The fact that my body and mind are healing day by day.

Sharing the difficult times with others on SR, and sharing the successes also. Knowing we are not alone in this.

Falling asleep naturally and sleeping soundly through the night.

Waking up in the morning able to jump out of bed without a hangover.

Getting to the golf course early and playing/practicing all day (tough right now during winter).

Hiking with my better half and our dogs, skating, bowling, cuddle nights are Saturday, we watch a movie and it's our junk food night, we just bought a home on the ocean and I am now renovating as its been a life long hobby so building our dreams is fun and relaxing to me, At the moment shoveling snow with the dogs as we just received 45cm (18 inches).......these are just a few things

I find comfort in going to bed each night knowing that I made it through another day clean and sober....and I can remember it. In the morning I find comfort in drinking coffee, watching the early news and checking in here. I can start my day without having to wonder and worry about what I did the night before in a blackout....my blackouts generally ended with some legal or medical consequence. I can be present for my students every day and if possible, I can make a difference in some one's day.

I take great comfort in my dogs and cats. Feeding and caring for them gives me a wonderful feeling.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Going to bed and night and drifting into a sweet, natural sleep. Waking up feeling euphoric, drowsy, and NOT hungover.

My furry canine companion, a sheltie. She's a riot.

A million different ways to prepare coffee -- lattes and virgin Irish coffee, etc.

A ride in the car, with a latte.
