I had a dream I drank.

Oh it was so terrible! So so terrible. So grateful to wake up and realize it was only just a dream! Glad you all are here.

Yesterday I took a bunch of old keys off of my key ring. Last night I dreamed I couldn't find a key that I needed. Brains are funny.

I used to in early sobriety have those drinking dreams.
Once I awoke so very tormented.
What a relief when I realized that it wasn't real.

Maybe a reminder for us ?
Od what we wish not to do ?

very common.

I had them a lot the first year. Haven't had a drinking dream in quite some time, but the other night I did have a dream that I had some cocaine and it had spilled and I was trying to gather up all the chunks before I got caught so I could find a place to use it.

Very odd..... I have absolutely no desire or craving to use cocaine ever again, and didn't really like it that much even when I was somewhat addicted to it.....

So, I guess it's just something that - like any other flavor of nightmare - is going to happen. It can really be unsettling though.

I don't have drinking dreams very often anymore, but when I do, I'm just glad it was only a dream.

I get those from time to time. Very unsettling and messes with your morning for a bit until it gets out of your head. They just make me even more thankful for my sobriety so it's not all bad in the end.

I just posted about this! I have had one almost every night this past week. Last night it was about buying a beer and a joint. Funny because a) I don't like beer and b) can't tell you the last time I smoked.

But my 16 year old daughter was in the dream and was very disappointed in me.

I won't miss these nightmares...

Aren't they the worst? I had an awful one last night too. But it's such a relief to wake up.

I had a couple the first few weeks, but what was strange for me was that in my dreams, I was drinking cocktails. That's strange because I have avoided cocktails, and hard liquor period, since the mid-90s.

So when I awoke from those dreams, I wasn't freaked out ... I already knew that they weren't real.

I've had those. Crazy thing for me is that they are some of the more vivid dreams that I have. Whats funny though is that I REALLY don't wanna drink once I wake up and realize it was a dream (because the dream, like how my life was turning out, was awful)

Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the club!

I had a few "drinking dreams" early in sobriety that were so realistic that I woke up shattered....only to realize that it was only a nightmare. Those dreams are really spooky! They'll really tail off as you get some sober time, but I sure do understand that terrible horror. I wouldn't wish those nasty dreams on anyone!

These vivid dreams can leave me with guilt, shame and remorse as If they were real upon awakening. Takes a bit to shake it off!

On the rare occasion I have one anymore I view it as a good reminder of who I was and where I am today.

You are not alone

Sorry to hear that.

Dreams are so interesting, and it seems largely not thought about anymore as a key to anything really. but they must be something right...

I don't have drinking dreams, but I do dream more when I am not drinking.

I do use the urge to drink as something to be explored, why did I want a drink then?? But don't dwell on it too much.

Drinking dreams were awful for me. Found solace reading that others had them.

Mine were so vivid, so intense that I actually tasted wine in my mouth when I woke up. Wasn't enough toothpaste that morning!
