Hungover Free - 40 Days
Feeling good, but wish I would lose some weight, feel like I reward myself for another day with cookies and other sweets.
Anyone experience lack of weight loss, because I really thought I would see some effects by now?

I ate a lot of sugar for the first few months, didn't gain or lose - I think it was a wash after all the alcohol calories and drunk food choices.
In my case, I gradually went back to healthier eating. Do whatcha gotta do, ya know?

Hey Golfdad,
I read somewhere here that, after you quit drinking, it takes a while for your body to react to not immediately metabolizing the alcohol first. (Your body tends to want to get the POISON out as fast as it can!)
So, even though you're probably consuming less calories, your body is metabolizing them wrong. It's confused.
It will get better. I lost 5 lbs. right away and then plateaued until 60 days. Now I've lost 5 lbs. more.
Exercise is great for the body and the mind too!
Good luck.

Congrats Golf Dad.
Ya. I'm at 30 days. At first it seemed like I lost a few pounds. Mostly because I was drinking a ton of water. I too have been eating more sweets. Especially cookies.. But I'll take that over the booze for now!
Happy 40 days!

Nice going on 40 days Golfdad!! If you like to walk find a couple of 2 mile routes with a couple of hills & committ to walking 4 days a week, cut the sugar, drink lots of water & guarantee you will lose weight & feel great in time to hit the golf course this spring!!

I lost ten pounds in the first two weeks (230 lb. man at first) but then found myself craving bread/butter, sweets etc... I began eating like a stoned maniac on weeks three and four and the weight loss slowed markedly. After the first month I got my diet dialed in and began walking. I've lost about a lb./week for months now and have finally reached the 185 lb. that I launched into drinking from all those years ago...
The cravings seem to go away the more you cram really healthy fresh food into your system.
Good luck.

Every time I stopped drinking I gained weight, until this time. I still gained weight for the first month or two, but at month five things have calmed down a lot and I am no longer binging pizza so my weight has plummeted. No matter what I eat its hard to beat the calories of alcohol.
Hey Golfdad, I'm a woman but I lost about 15 lbs on the "divorce diet" and kept it off (well, most of it) after I stopped drinking. Yes, I can relate to the mad cravings for sweets. I never used to be tempted but my kids are now complaining that I'm trying to make them fat. lol! Don't worry about it, it's better than drinking. And I hear it goes away.
