Something Old; Something New
As a lurker here for some years, it's time to post.
The people in this forum are wonderfully encouraging to each other and the shared information is a treasure to those both old and new to sobriety.
I don't have a long history of alcohol abuse but over the past 5 years I could see my pattern becoming problematic as I'd have at least 2 drinks every day but usually 3 and sometimes up to 7 or 8. I've had brief periods of abstinence but as experienced by so many others here (everyone?) resuming alcohol in moderation never worked. Creating a place for alcohol in my life every day was just getting so old; it's long been time for something new.
I had one false start to a dry January but am now exactly 3 weeks sober and just beginning to approximate a normal sleep pattern. I've had no "pink cloud" (is it a blue cloud for a guy?), but I do find that my blood pressure has decreased by a lot, my energy is sufficient for the tasks at hand, and my mind is a lot clearer.
I've been buying Perrier at the local Costco by the case and with a supply of decent lemons, ice and lemon flavoring I've got tasty drinks ready at hand in the evening after work. Exercise and daily meditation have helped as has a return to usual hobbies and activities.
Thanks to all for the great advice and shared experiences.

Musicians, restaurant workers, salesmen, ect... it's hard for us all where it is "expected" alcohol play a roll.
I started my binge drinking 18 years ago working a restaurant while in college in Manhattan. Free access to a full bar and I wasn't the only one who took advantage of it either.

Welcome, and it sounds like you're doing well.
I didn't have a pink cloud either (and I'm a girl ) and I'm glad about that because my recovery was reasonably steady with no big lows.
