How did you get your user name?

Having been here on and off for a few years, I've seen a lot of people come and go and I'm always fascinated for some reason by your user names. I'm sure you chose them because they have some sort of special meaning for you, and I'm curious how you came up with them.

As for me, mine came from my favorite song by my favorite band (Def Leppard). The lyrics really spoke to me and I relate them to my alcoholism and the misery I wanted to leave behind.

DESERT SONG by Def Leppard

Dark n' dirty
Like you have never seen
Our minds all twisted
With thoughts so unclean

My heart is racing
All tattered and torn
I stand here naked
As the day I was born

Only the lonely will stand
I'm holding the world
In my hand
I got to believe

The sky is falling
On this setting sun
Echoes of silence
Ringing loud and long

This isolation
Is the king of pain
A lost horizon
In an ocean of flames

Only the lonely will stand
I'm holding the world
In my hand
I've got to believe

I've been here before
But not as I stand here today
I wait for the dawn
Ready to walk into the light

If you'd care to share, I'd love to learn more about your username and what significance it has for you. Thank you! And hope everyone is enjoying a sober Sunday.

Mine was quite simple , I'm Irish and non Irish refer to us as Paddy's...
Nothing too exciting about mine, also when I joined my head was fried so I couldn't think of anything exciting or meaningful.
Good Thread though...

My user name is an alternate version of the name I use on guitar forums and youtube. I was also Slacky at one point but I don't feel that goes with what I am about today. Blacky .. black sheep of the .. trouble .. etc.

Doing well now though, here is me playing something ..

One of the 10th step promises from the big book Alcoholics Anonymous is:

We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

I spent my life in anxiety and depression, surrounded by family chaos. Then I created my own chaos unintentionally as an adult because that's all I knew.

Peace? Serenity? I didn't think it was possible unless I was asleep or dead. After reading the 10th step promises, I had that mustard seed of belief that it was possible.

I'm happy to say that I have finally experienced moments of living in peace and serenity for the first time in my life, because of working my recovery program.

Star Wars Wicket is a name of an Ewok in Episode VI. When I was signing up, I couldn't think of a username. I looked over to my right and saw our Star Wars Blu-ray set, and the Ewoks are my favorite.

Mine comes from a Rudyard Kipling poem "If"

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

I'm a big fan of The Legend of Zelda game series and I couldn't come up with anything else so I went with ZeldaFan.

Mine is the scientific name for the genus of the bottlenose dolphin.

I'm a scuba diver and sailor, and have been lucky enough to see them at sea many times.

My user name…was the name of my cat, who I loved like a child. I’ve had pets for decades, but this little feline was unique, she actually made a cat lover out of my husband, who had no affection for them previously. She was an indoor/outdoor cat, loved hunting, very affectionate, and trained us well. Where I live, we do have a coyote problem, so I tried to keep her indoors, but her natural instincts were already developed and she constantly protested. So, as time progressed, she would go out in the morning, and back indoors in the evenings, for the most part of the seven years we had together.

Here comes the guilt admission – one weekend, I woke up after finishing a bottle of wine earlier in the day, and decided another bottle was in order. It was dusk, so I rushed to the store and returned quickly. As I pulled up, I noticed a coyote near the house (a first for me)! I went out and called for my cat, and then went out on foot looking for her. In the park, adjacent to my house, I found a clump of her hair. It still brings me to tears, just typing this. Yes, I lost my cat that day and still blame myself. That void is still raw, 4 years later.

I have two indoor cats now, but I don’t think there will ever be one as special to me as Odelle was.

Aside from being a cute small woodland creature, a weasel tends to have a bad rap. I aim to correct all the wrongs put upon him. Weaselman was a term of endearment in a long term relationship. It soon shortened to just weasel.

You can call me just "Weasel". I don't bite.

Fun thread. Someone posted a similar query a year or so ago and the responses were interesting and fun.

Mine?

After lurking for a week, I decided to take the plunge and join but couldn't come up with a screen name. Or, what did come to mind would be something that might be easily identified with me. I finally got exasperated with myself, looked around my living room and saw the word "Venecia" on something in my midst.

I just went with it. Some days I like it; most days I think it makes me sound like an overly prim school marm.

Oh well. In real life, I have the luxury of actually liking my name quite a bit so you win a few and lose few.

early on there were quite a few people named tom at meetings. actually sat at one with 6 other toms. people would laugh when the chair asked tom if hed like to share.
i got the nick "young tom" as i was the youngest.
then i turned 40 and for some mysterious reason the "young" disappeared.
so i started sayin tomsteve, basically because theres a lot of billybobs, jimbobs, bobbyjoes,etc out there but not many tomsteves!

My dog is named Scooter. Three years ago a cat came to my door, he would leave, then come back. When the cold weather set in, I decided to keep him and named him Mr. Boomerang, which I have shortened to Boo.....

Thus, ScooterBoo
