14 Days/2 Weeks

Remember only a few short weeks ago when I was posting here so ill and afraid?

Today marks two weeks sober. I just came in from digging out two feet of heavy snow, a feat that would have been unimaginable two weeks and one day ago!

And, for what it's worth, I've been in a house with alcohol for the last two days. The cravings are occasional, minimal, and manageable. Snow shoveling would normally be a drinking event, but I did it sober and am about to enjoy a virgin Irish coffee. (Which is really quite good -- you should try one! Top your coffee with whipped cream and a sprinkle of your favorite spice -- nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, etc.)

I was wondering how you were faring with the liquor cabinet, SIS.

It's pretty today, isn't it?
Sweetened coffee is even better after a good hard stint of shoveling.

Great job on two weeks!!!

Thanks, and I agree. This is going better than I expected so far.

It's too soon to declare victory, but I attribute the ease of these two weeks to reaching a point where I was s**t out of patience with booze and how it was wrecking my traffic-stopping bod, my Mensa-smart brain, my relationships, my career, and my life.

I got single-minded about it. Alcohol was the enemy and I adopted a Straight Outta Compton gangsta persona, committing myself to its destruction. I tapped into my anger, took an Army of One attitude, and set out with one purpose -- to kick its a**. I didn't care what it cost. It's a war, and I'm not interested in negotiating a cease-fire if you know what I mean.

That's where my head's been these last few weeks. If I stay this determined and single-minded, I think this is winnable.

Tomorrow. We got mostly dug out here today but since I'll have a 7.5 hour drive, I want to leave in the mid- to late morning. Also taking into account that it may take a little longer due to traffic or road conditions.

I'm looking forward to picking my sheltie up from the sitter. I just hope she remembers who I am!
