Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

I am thinking on all of the excuses/reasons I drank

- Wife wasnt at home and I couldnt sleep without her there
- Lets go out for a meal
- I can control it
- I dont have a problem

All outright lies.........

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Yep. But at least you recognize them as lies now.

I'm not sure if there is such a thing as "making it up." I think there is such a thing as making it right, which is to move forward with a plan to not drink.

Agreed. If you get sober and stay sober that will be worth so much more to them than any single act of contriteness. Boozers are known for the cycle of mess-up/apologize, mess-up/apologize. If you seriously walk the talk, that's the only thing that matters.

Hi John, glad you joined us!

Denial, guilt, remorse, shame........these are actions and feelings that kept me shut out of a real life for many years. It was as if I was somebody else, operating on the fringes and in the shadows.

You are not alone, welcome.

Denial is a very big part of alcoholism.

I didn't want my alcoholic mom to "make it up to me"
I just wanted her to not drink anymore. And really stick with it.
She always relapsed, and ultimately, it destroyed my trust in her
and our personal relationship. . .

That's what you can change

I carried on the fantasy of why I needed to drink, what alcohol added to my life and how awful my life would be without drinking, for far too long!!

Excuses, lies, myths, fantasy . . . there is light on the horizon if we take a leap of faith and reach towards it!!

I kept it simple - an idea that a drink might be a good idea is a lie.
