I am taking my first step by telling someone I can't hide from myself anymore. You know how you think you are fooling everyone about your drinking and gambling but the only one you are fooling is yourself.

Hi Fernie,
I was totally convinced no one other than my husband and kids knew about my drinking. It took a long time, but eventually I realized that lots of people knew. I think that is part of the denial aspect of the disease - to believe that you are in control of who knows about one's drinking.
Congratulations on deciding to take the first step in stopping drinking!

I was convinced my husband didn't know. How's that for denial. To think you can drink beer most of the day then come home shower brush your teeth and believe you are fooling him when you screw up dinner.

Now that I know I have people to talk to I will come home from work about 1:00 and not feel alone. It just seems so hard to be alone from 1:00 unitl 6:00 when my husband gets home. It has been a real bad last few days. My husband is gone hunting and it makes me feel lonely so I go out and sit in a casino and gamble and drink.

I know how you feel. It's so important to plan for those times and keep oneself busy. No casinos here. But I sure drank my share whether my husband was out of town or not. A bad habit which I've been fortunate to manage now. Come back and say hi.

Just about time to get ready for work. Thank you all for the feeling of support. I know my day will start off on a good note. Look forward to logging on when I get home today to see how everyone is doing.
