I think a lot of people are saddened by his death Simon.

I'm trying to focus on the incredible body of work he left behind - as well as the very genuine joy he gave people - the impromptu Brixton street party, for example was great. I can't think of many other popular artists being honoured that way.

Discussion of him as a HP tho...that would be off topic for this forum

I'm finding it too sad to want to listen to any of his music. Maybe later. What a gentleman he was, I hear.

OT maybe but I recommend Mike Garsons Bowie Variations.

He was the piano guy for Bowie for a few years from Aladdin Sane on.

Really nice jazz, almost modern classical compositions based on the Bowie originals.

Really suiting my mood since Monday.

hahahaha, a few years ago I had my mom in the car with me. It was a three hour trip. I had Alladin Sane playing. I don't exactly recall her exact comments, but it wasn't very flattering. Especially during the piano break...
I tried to explain to her the immense talent required to actually play that...

So I had to turn it off...

I have the cd and the original fold out album.

Caught Bowie live for his Sound and Vision tour in 1990's. One of the best shows I've ever seen. An amazing mashup of 60's, 70's and 80's faves. Touted as his last tour with Ziggy Stardust material. What a performance. What a band. What an artist. He is missed.

Me and my neighbor are big Bowie fans and were standing in the driveway on Saturday talking about the new album that had just been released the day before. He was the one who first told me of Bowie's death. Got a text at 5:30 a.m.

Such a singular talent. That voice. I feel like someone in my family is gone.

Haven't listened to Bowie in years. The news of his death brought back memories of double tracking 8 tracks blasting to crackling distortion in my fine rusty ride with cracked Corinthian leather seats.

I'm glad that I listened to Bowie before I started abusing alcohol. So when I go back to the music, I won't need to be reminded of that vibe. Also, I appreciate the 'community feels' shared on this off topic area ~ it all counts toward camaraderie and support IMO, plus everyone's signature and the messages they contain are all very on topic :-)

I was as upset by his passing as I could be considering I didn't actually know him. I consider Bowie a genuine genius who's talents straddled diverse fields of endeavor. His music was inspired, otherworldly even. As an actor he had a screen presence that was at once captivating and alien. He really seemed like he was only visiting this plant.

RIP, David Bowie. You will cast a very long shadow for generations to come.

His death hit me really hard. I usually wake up for and hour around 3:30 am then fall back asleep. I checked my phone for the time and saw a notification from a news site that he died. I woke again around 6 and hoped it was just a bad dream.

Something I read on the net the following day which nailed it for me:

"...I’m sure that walking past his house every day represented some sort of beacon of possibility, that it was ok to be different, that it was important to be tolerant. If Ziggy Stardust is your role model growing up you never really think anyone is weird or abnormal - you just accept."

I was that kid in the early 70's, struggling with being different on many levels, struggling with my addictions to alcohol and drugs and I got that Bowie got us. Someone else wrote something along the line of his helping millions of weirdos come out in the sunlight.

Adios, Ziggy.

Liked his hits but wasn`t necessarily a major fan. My older sister took me to see him on the Station to Station tour.

(Was a bigger Elton John fan and my sister took me to him on see the Captain Fantastic tour which was a great show)
