My first
The first time I walked into an al-anon meeting was not what I was expecting. Yes, I knew that there would be women, what I didn't see was any other men. So my first thought was men must be the only ones that can't control their drinking, but after the meeting I was told that there was a meeting for men only. Trouble was it was on a night that I couldn't be there ( work). So I stuck it out with the women. The one thing I didn't like was their insisting I get a sponsor. Now how was I to get a sponsor when there are no other men? And to make matters worse was their little slogan " you don't have to do anything but come to meetings" . Any way now that I am retired I go to the all men's meeting. Been 4 years, seem to be getting better.
