Retirement Gift
Wouldn't you know..... I announced my retirement at work today and one of my co-workers gave me a nice bottle of 15 year single malt scotch. Should have retired 4 months ago. Oh well, it'll be a nice re-gift.
This past Christmas...just as many Christmases before, gifts are given to the attorneys from clients and vice versa. In almost every case, it turns out to be wine. Bottles and bottles of wine. Two of the attorneys I work for don't drink and I'm sure there are some others, along with some clients who don't drink. Our firm gives gifts of a case of very expensive wine to our biggest clients.
I got to wondering how alcohol became the most popular gift to give someone you aren't related to or intimate with. One of the attornies I work for has about 8 bottles of unopened wine in his credenza that were gifts from clients over the past few years.
