Five years sober
Five years sober
Today is the fifth anniversary of when i finally put the booze down. Best thing I ever did, Life is a lot easier now. I have a saying I have nothing to gain and too much to lose by having a drink
I realise that I am not a newcomer to sobriety but hopefully my story will give everyone who struggles with the booze hope

spen71, you joined SR a few years before I did, so I have been unaware of your 5 year journey. I just scrolled through the 2 threads you linked.
Wow. I am inspired by your 5 years of sobriety. And, as a runner, I am blown away by the marathons and ultramarathons that you have run.
Thanks for posting. And congratulations.

spen71, I read your struggle. I'm impressed by your getting up after each relapse. It's no surprise you run marathons.
It seemed you finally succeeded when you started AA and set goals for your self. Short term goals that diverted your attention from drinking very early in sobriety.
Do you have any helpful advice? I'm 30 days sober.

Just read through the threads you posted and I am amazed and inspired by your story! I just hit my first year sober and had to go through a lot of what you went through with a divorce and having to negotiate shared custody with my ex, 2 children, having them on weekends, feeling like crap the day I drop em off. Your thread gives me hope and encouragement that I am doing the right thing.
Thanks and congrats!
