How much damage have I done?

At least 1 pint of vodka per day (sometimes alot more) for the last 12 years. Is that enough to do any damage even after i have quit, or am i in the clear seeing as i don't have any major health problems to date?

I think that is a question for your doctor, they can run some tests.
The good news is that the liver has amazing regenerative properties as long as it is not too damaged.

I am amazed you are still alive (sorry to be brutal!)

When you say that you don't have any health problems to date, have you had a major head to toe check up? Blood tests, liver function tests, heart cardiogrammes etc etc We can be healthy on the outside but need to know what is going on the Inside in order to care for ourselves in the best possible way during our recovery

I'd surely go see the doctor and ask those questions. When I quit, I went for a check up.

As others posted, go see your doc~

My checkups after quitting were much better (remarkably) than I deserved. I did not use this as an excuse to return to drinking but am grateful that in the short run there are no serious issues. Only time will tell but the sooner we quit the better off our bodies, minds and spirits will be........

I echo see your doc as we are all different physically and you may as well have the peace of mind knowing you are ok, some bodies can take far more abuse than others.

just an aside...
I know of people who smoked every day of their adult life and lived into their nineties with no lung cancer or other diseases.

I know of people who never smoked and died from lung cancer in their forties.

Without seeing a doctor and getting the appropriate tests, there is no way to guess.

The damage depends on a lot of factors, but if you continue to drink it will eventually kill you. Given your rate -- which is like mine was, but I'm a middle-aged woman & I couldn't sustain it long, physically -- I'd be concerned about health damage, too.

Shortly after I quit, I made an appointment for a general physical. The doctor asked if I had any concerns, and I said that I drank a lot. We took it from there. He was not at all surprised, or judgmental, or anything, and I got the information I needed.

Good luck and congratulations on your choice of sobriety!

Noone can answer that but your doctor and a full physical csaw,

If it helps, I feared things were a lot worse than they were - go get yourself checked out and find out for sure.

Sorry to sound like a parrot but seeing your doctor who will then almost certainly send you for blood tests. Blood analysis can show up a lot, especially if they know what to look out for

Congratulations on quitting csaw
