inlaws alcohol affecting theyre relationship with their grandkids
Long story short
My inlaws have a bad drinking problem
They rather get drunk than spend time with their grandkids
They make it a very big deal if we ask them to watch the kids for us while we run errands
Its really upsetting us alot!
And we need help as to what to do

Hi Ellie, they're making a fuss because they know they can't drink while watching the kids. As much as you'd like to change them there's not much you can do until they come to their own conclusions. It's especially hard when there are two of them reinforcing each other.
Try to lower your expectations, because if you expect them to put anything before drinking you'll just be disappointed. Don't feel obliged to visit them with the children when they're drinking though, as it's a bad example for the kids.
Summary: make other arrangements for babysitting, stay away from them while they're drinking, and be as open as you like if they ask you why they're not seeing their grandchildren.
