New Year SR Time Zones Marathon 2016
Hi, SR friends!
It is going to be my 4th New Year Eve I am celebrating sober.
The first one was challenging - I was worried that "NY will not be real NY without Champaigne".
One of the biggest myths of my life was debunked that night - it had all the festive atmosphere and magic in the air. Without the price of hangover as the first thing to come in the New Year)
Back then, on my first Big Sober Holiday I started my own little tradition - NY SR Time Zones Marathon.
There are people from all over the globe here. And I thought it would be encouraging if someone of the members, who will be here on SR and will be the first to see New Year in, will post "Hi, I'm celebrating New Year now. I'm sober and it's great". Maybe, attach some pics of fireworks and share feelings and emotions. And then relay "NY baton" to members in other time zones.
I will be here and , traditionally, my turn to welcome the New Year will be somewhere at the start.
Who's up for sober New Year 2016 fun?

I like it, MB!
Here's our plan....we are going to a family roller skating NY theme party with a balloon drop at 'Midnight' (which will really by 8PM lol ).
Then home, where we will make cotton candy with a maker my son got for Xmas and play board games.
Ginger Ale all around!
I will check in U.S. EST!

I'm in! I'll be up until midnight California time. Hanging with my brother, sister in law and niece. We play monopoly and eat pizza and I make a new fancy mocktail each year.
This year I made a simple syrup with a vanilla bean and cinnamon stick. It smells divine and I think it will be awesome with chai!

As an alcoholic I would stay out drinking with friends until about 1.00am then come home and start the serious drinking until blackout time.
Last year I was so ill from drinking over Christmas that I basically missed New Years Eve (so it was that 13/12/14 was my first sober day)
This year I am going out with friends who are drinking so I will be leaving it late before I go out so as not to have to spend hours and hours around drink and drinkers. I should say none of them are heavy drinkers on a regular basis but at this time of the year...

Oops, 7 hours late to this: Aus calling here, happy sober NY 2016 to you guys!!
I did absolutely FA yesterday and last night, as it was really hot (40 degrees celsius) and a total fire ban day. Here in Victoria (the State) we've had a number of big nasty bush fires in various places since October until Christmas Day, wiping out lots of homes and generally scaring the pants off people. So I mostly stayed in under the evap air con with the dog,
prepared in case a fire started in the bush reserve very close to my place.
Yeah, it was a bit dull, a bit lonely, and I had to work on that silly FOMO stuff - ugh, 1/2 a million people will be in Melbourne CBD for the 'biggest ever' extravaganza etc (Council says it every year ), blah blah blah
And I stayed SOBER, yay!!! First sober NYE in god knows how many years, including recovery years, as I used to bust around the Christmas / NY week.
So, in the end: sober, clear head, calm and pretty sane. I was able to get up at midnight, woken by the sound of the extravaganza - 50kms away across the Bay from me! - and sit outside in the dark, still-warm air and just soak it up. Much like I did in the wee hours of Christmas Day, bathed in the full moon then, and clear, fragrant silence, ahhhhhhh. Two very special moments of peace.
Peace to all of us and this mad mad mad world this year : link here:

Mesa- Thanks for the video!
Sao - Wish you a good sober night)
Bemyself - Happy New Year! Hope 2016 looks good!
It's just half an hour till I will be in 2016 myself.
I am saying goodbye to 2015 - it's been absolutely roller-coaster year for me from deep despair to moment of genuine happiness.
What is important - I am welcoming New Year with a smile, sober, and excited about the future!
Join the sober party, friends!

Happy New Year's to those of you who are already in 2016-Australia and NZ friends! I'm on the East Coast of the US and will not be seeing midnight for another 9 hours or so. It will most definitely be a sober New Year's for me, the first in many, many years. I'll be staying in and watching movies all night and of course, I'll be checking in here. Enjoy your sober New Year's Eve, everyone!
