Reawakened a sleeping monster
Was sober for 16 yrs, started drinking again in 2010. Lost my 21 yr marriage, went to prison for 2 yrs, now livin alone, isolated, and drinking again. Want to stop, just afraid of the darn hangovers. Scary..
Welcome SR. There are hangovers and then their are HANGOVERS. The latter are relentless and angst ridden (for me that is) and abated only when I put down the grog. I stopped for 5 years once and know how you feel. You can get yourself back and will have lots to offer those of us who have picked up years down the track. It's true to say that it's patient. I'm here on my own not one hour into the New Year and so happy to be sober. This is day 10 for me and so much better. The self hatred is diminishing because I know I am doing the right thing for myself and those around me.
Welcome to the Forum Fep!!
There's no easy way to avoid the body having to adjust from years of drinking, we all have to start somewhere, and sure it's going to be tough in the beginning but I assure you there is light at the end of the tunnel , and really what's the alternative?
Take a leap of faith, finally draw a line under alcohol, and write a new chapter to your life!!
You can do this!!

Welcome, fep!
I felt the same way when I relapsed after long-term sobriety: that I'd awakened a sleeping monster.
It was pretty hard to get sober after that but I kept trying, and now life is getting good again. It's only one more hangover you have to suffer through and it might be rough for a while, but then you never have to feel that way again if you don't want to.
This is a good start to help you get your life back.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Hi! I'm new to this myself. Been drinking over 25 years -- ouch!! Once in a while I'd get sober for a few weeks or one month, but as soon as a single drink touched my lips, the monster woke up and started ravaging me again.
New Year's Eve seems like a perfect time for you to say enough is enough. What are your plans for this?

Wow, I'm sorry for your situation.
But, you were sober for 16 years so you know you can do it and you know how it's done. Yes, there might be withdrawal symptoms, but you can check with your dr on that. I hope you make the decision to start living a sober life.
