A Weekender Reunion! 1-1 '16
The first weekender was a post of caring and friendship. Nothing has changed.
Mecanix posted it back in 2012 -13 to help get me through a weekend. I was a mess. I could do a day here or a day there but never a Friday to Monday. Of course then it wasn't titled the weekender. But in those first few I found I needed that constant weekend support. It helped me immensely.
So many people have lurked or posted on a weekender since then. I wonder how you are doing. I suspect some are well and happy and some are still living in the hell of drinking. Or somewhere in between. I wanted to stop for a decade. Then drank for a long time even while coming here to get help.
There is no shame in where you are in your efforts. Nope. That's not what this reunion is about. It's about a simple hello. If everyone who visits or lurks or is a regular says hello this first of the year. This new beginning. Maybe we can show the newcomers how very important camaraderie and support means in getting sober. You are never alone.
*Ring Ring*
What does it mean? In the words of Mecanix...
“The first bell is the bell of mindfulness, calling to me and you.
It says stop what am i doing right now, take some breaths, feel my body, am I holding it tight and tense? Relax… calm down… life is a journey and not a destination, make the journey as glorious as possible.
The second bell is the freedom bell and I'm ringing it for you to let you know freedom from drink and drugs is available to you, come and hear us calling out to you.”
Have a safe, sober and happy new year!!!

I'm in - will try and keep up.
Congratulations Sao - you must be feeling great to reach that milestone.
Night in with friends and kids playing games but no matter what I will not be starting 2016 with any regrets - sparkling water and limes at the ready :-)
