Hi, I'm new here:)
Just wanted to say Hello not sure if I'm even in the right spot. I am an alcoholic who decided to finally quit after 41 years of drinking! I have been 59 days sober today Alcohol never took a day of work from me and I did not lose a lot through my addiction, oh except my soul and the freedom to control my own life! I am currently doing it on my own with the support of God and some really great friends, though I have an upcoming appt. with an addiction counselor I hope to give and get support here on how to learn to live day to day without alcohol.
Welcome Unfolding Wings,
59 days sober is great. And, I'm glad you are planning to see a counsellor, too. You will find lots of support and information here, so I hope you continue to read and post.

Thank you:)
So nice to get some hellos Can't wait to hear from others how you learned to redo everyday things without a glass (or bottle) of wine! Like..... relaxing, having fun, working on projects, shopping online, celebrating birthdays and holidays, going to social events etc, etc etc. This whole thing is kind of like a death, losing a good friend. I read 2 super good books that helped me and they discussed that you would grieve. I do, pretty much some part of everyday. A previous counselor told me that most alcoholics that make it past 90 days succeed in quitting long term. I have decided to stop counting at 90 days because counting makes me feel like after a certain amount of time I can return to drinking and I know that is not doable for me. Any and all support is appreciated! Wish I had known about this sight my first 2 weeks, they sucked!
Congrats on day 59! That's amaze! I know what you mean about not knowing how to live without a glass (or mug) of wine in hand! I too am a 'functioning' alcoholic...successful and happy(ish)...I've never had trouble with the law or suffered financially from my drinking....YET...but after 30 yrs of being a wino....to go without, feels like walking around totally naked! How can I 'be' without the cover, the shelter of my wine? But I have done it...for 12 days now! I have a lot to figure out...a lot of work to do so that I don't feel so bare without my doc...but I'm willing...and it helps to read posts like yours! Keep up the good work...you're an inspiration!

Thanks Rahrah! Sometimes I think being a "functional alcohol" is incredibly hard cause you can use your success in other areas to justify your downfall with alcohol> Thanks for responding
