Work party
Work party
Four years ago, we go to my husband's work party. Our relationship is rocky and both of us are on the descending slopes of our addictions. I always enjoyed work parties and a chance to dress up, go to a fancy place, dance, and of course drink. I look great, I enjoy the attention and conversations. My husband is the designated driver so I go from bar station to bar station, I'm smooth and cool. Cut to the end of the night - I am passed out in a handicapped stall and it takes several people to coax me out. When they succeed, I curse and shout that I hate my husband. I scream and vomit out the window all the way home. Next day, oh the shame and the groveling and the self-loathing.
Fun times. My husband never asked me to join him for a work party since. Even now, when I'm almost 1,5 years sober. Can't blame him.
Please be responsible and kind to yourself this season. You know how the story ends. If you must attend a booze-filled celebration, have a non-alcoholic drink at the ready, that has saved me on many occasions since. Sparkling water and lime, dear friend. And Coke when I'm feeling wild.
Be safe and be merry! Sober life rocks and sparkles.

That sounds like my first work party ever when I was about 17. Blacked out at the end of the evening and my boyfriend told me later that a coworker had drive me home and then practically carry me up the stairs to our apartment because I had passed out in her car.
Shame and humiliation made me drink even more instead of stopping.
