55 years is enough
just joined, this is my first post and just wanted to say, after 55 years of drinking way to much, its time,no more, i am done, i will be sober the rest of my life, i really support all of you, lets do this....
Welcome Grizzly - plenty of us getting sober later in life. I too was sick and tired of being sick and tired. For me, it was a great starting point to willingness. With the help of SR and a program of recovery I am sober today! I'll deal with tomorrow when it gets here......
Welcome!
Welcome!
Amen!!
In no time at all you're going to look back and shake your head in disbelief. You're going to wonder why you didn't stop earlier.
I think I saw that you're a salesman? I sell life insurance D2D. It was a struggle at first trying to sell while sober. I lost sales the first couple weeks because I was moody and too focused on myself.
The only suggestions I have:
- Don't have high expectations. Try to set easily attainable goals. Like lay me down goals.
- Plan on a few breaks during the day where you can have a little time for yourself. Even 10min. Use that time to pump yourself up. Definitely try to center yourself after a blown sale or when your frustrated.
- eat really good. Fruits, veggies, lean protein, water. 5 small meals is better for stabilizing moods as that levels out glucose.
- buy dark chocolate. Something with 85% coca or better. It's a HUGE mood lifter. Read up on dark chocolate and alcohol withdrawals. You'd be surprised at how well it helps.
- drop the coffee. Switch to green tea if you need caffeine. Green tea has theanine in it that helps with mood.
Have faith that the emotions you may experience are short term. Have faith that a sober path is going to lead you to a MUCH more fruitful life than staying on a drunk path. Remind yourself that if you can push through this tough time, you are going to make up lost productivity and then some!!
Congrats for making the decision! You will not regret your choice!!
