I read Bird by Bird a few years ago. Highly recommended!

(That being said if one is actually interested in other books about writing, I also highly recommend Stephen King's On Writing)

Lammott's book "Operating Instructions," about being a single mom, is also amazing. Funny, honest, direct. BTW she is a recovering addict too.

Thanks for the additional info, you guys--and I just heard Brene Brown talk about her in yesterday's disc of "Rising Strong", too. Sounds like another addition to my recovery reading list.
