Hi am big P, I have been looking at Sr for some time now but this is my first post and I would like to introduce myself. I am 41 and have been a problem drinker since my late 20's developing into an alcoholic in my early 30's. I come from a family where my mother remarried and I didn't get on with my step father. They then had two kids so I was the outcast of the family and got treated as such. I cut them out my life five years ago because the rejection was negative and bringing me down.I have had lots of other really bad stuff but that can keep for now. I am on day 5 now and starting to feel better, the anxiety and shaking have passed now. I have lost count of how many times I have done this. I can usually last around 8 weeks things in my life are getting better then I press the self destruct button and mess up my hard work. I get cravings and that voice in my head tells me it's OK you won't go on a bender, as if! Anyway it's nice to be part of this group and I hope we can work together so we all live a sober happy life. 😊👍xx

It's great to meet you, BigP! This is a wonderful place for friendship & encouragement as you begin your journey.

I'm sorry for the pain you've experienced during your life. It's understandable to want to numb ourselves - but as we eventually find out, it does nothing to help us cope. It holds us back from growing and maturing normally. I drank 30 yrs. - always had an excuse to get numb. It's so good to be free.

5 days is a wonderful achievement - you can do this.

Hi and Welcome,

Sometimes we need to step away from family members because they are toxic in our lives. I'm glad you have decided to stop drinking and good work on 5 days sober!

welcome aboard BigP

If you can make it 8 weeks you can make as long as you want.

But you have to want it. There is a lot of support here. And as you have been reading, it is difficult at first. But there is plenty of proof here that it can be done.
