Lightbulb That burning feeling

The froth of an ice cold beer filled pitchers and wine glasses all filled. Free wine. White, red and zinfandel. It all seems to be there. I can drink my fill and noone would say anything. So tempting for 1 or 2 but my tape doesnt stop there. I will ended walking to a gas station for a case and a small bottle. Wake of tomorrow reaking and feeling like hell. I will need some more tomorrow night to cure my anxiety from drinking today. I would know. My conscience would know.
See the alcohol isnt really free. There is always a price to be paid. I can't afford it anymore. The detrimental effects. I will pass. Have all the "free" drinks strangers. For me its no longer meant to be.

I once rode a bicycle with two flat tires to the gas station for beer. The lengths we will go to for a drink. It's crazy, isn't it? There's always a price to pay.

I remember going to a hotel that gave me two vouchers for two free drinks and feeling oddly tempted. Somehow giving up free alcohol seemed different than if I had to pay for it. But then I thought I don't care that much about a few dollars, why would it even matter? Besides which if I was going to throw away my recovery it sure as heck wasn't going to be with whatever cheap alcohol they were serving.

But it's funny how even if we're pretty solid in sobriety something like "free" alcohol can come up and suddenly throw our heads for a loop.

Yup, never free, I just read a good article on Sober Recovery and I relate to '1. Mood changes', where it describes it as a loan.

After 6 months sober, I feel pretty comfortable in situations where booze is served. But I was just reminded that I was invited to this annual lunch event on Friday, for a few hundred people, which I've been to the last 3 years. My friend has booked a taxi to pick us up at 11am. We would get there by about 11:30 in order to get about 2 hours drinking in before lunch starts. Last year our table of ten went through about 15-20 bottles of wine. After lunch we went back to the bar for an hour or two, then went on a pub crawl. By around 10pm we were in the casino. Last year I was lucky and another friend had too much and suggested we get a taxi back together, just at the point where talk of strip clubs had started. All of this would have been free (except the gambling part, that can get expensive, and luckily I don't know what the strippers would have cost).

I just turned it down. There's a limit to how far I want to test myself

Hi Let,
Good job on playing that tape through! As you know, you were my inspiration to resist when faced with "free" wine a few weeks ago.

On a recent flight I was upgraded to first class where the drinks are free. Of the 16 of us in the first class section 14 partook. (Yeah, I still count.) No one had more than 2, though. I just don't understand normies. So very very strange.

The young fellow across the aisle had a lovely selection of teas and was willing to share. Lunch was good and I made a friend. Not bad for a 4-hour flight.
