Looking outside at the trees that have turned into icicles, space heater by my side, and thoughts of winters past. That old companion of mine is no longer welcome in this house. It made promises that on the cold days it could keep me warm, but all it did was disappoint in the end. I miss it a little, even dream about it sometimes, but I'll just let a dream be a dream. I'll remember this day and the beauty of it. I'll remember the sound of cars driving past, splashing in puddles as people go about their day. I'll remember the white sky. I'll remember the tweeting of birds outside as they plan their trip south. On this day I can feel nothing but gratitude that I have gotten through some really bad times but can live to reflect on it and turn my life around. I'm thinking about my future and for once I am excited about it. Cold icy days use to be very depressing days, days of despair and lost hope, days of regret. Today however, is a day of peace and tranquility. The little things that use to make me happy are rearing themselves back in my life again, and I am grateful.
