Holiday parties through a new lens
So earlier this week I went to a holiday party. It was an amusing theme party sort of thing, and apart from the friend I went with, I knew nobody there. In the past, the first thing I would have wanted walking into a situation like that would be a drink in my hand. I would have told myself as soon as I got through the door that I needed it to relax and feel more comfortable.
Well I'm now at over 5 months since my last drink and it was really interesting to see how differently I responded. I didn't crave a drink at all and in the end had more fun than I would have back as my old drinking self. In fact, my old drinking self might not have even gone to that party.
So on this Thanksgiving, among other things, I'm so grateful for this new sense of control and the gift of being able to relax and enjoy new things and people without wanting to drink!
Happy Thanksgiving!
