Great to be Sober--15 months now

Good morning to all!
I haven't been here in a long time so thought I would check in. Forgot how much wisdom and hope was here. SR was one of the first places I hesitantly and quietly reached out to when I began looking at my unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

I am now very thankful to be a sober happy woman who has not drank in 15 months. For those of you struggling to believe you have a problem that would require such a radical solution as eliminating alcohol entirely because you never had a drunk driving ticket or other legal issues, and you still have a home , good job and haven't totally alienated family/friends--I understand. And I also understand that that thinking kept me in denial, kept me only half living really. Becoming so isolated that each weekend was spent drinking alone, passing out, then drinking more. Not able to make it to a party or dinner with friends--until they finally stopped asking. I finally was just completely soul sick. My binge drinking had placed my relationships with my husband. family and friends at risk and I was definitely at risk for hurting myself or others by driving after drinking, and I certainly wasn't giving my best effort at work. 1st step was changing my routine to NOT stop immediately after work to get wine and drink it before I got home. I CHOSE to find AA meetings. At first, it was just to be somewhere where I knew I couldn't drink. I don't believe AA is the ONLY answer but it has been a huge help to me. It really is a one day at a time deal whatever tools you choose. And now? Living with a clear head and conscience everyday -- not wondering if I have anything to apologize for saying or doing while drinking-- this is living fully and it is totally awesome!!

Congrats on 15 months! I have a very similar "story". I never got a DUI, I have a good job, etc., but I isolated and drank all weekend every weekend. I am close to 3 months sober now and am working to rebuild friendships and a life. This sure beats the life I had when alcohol ruled it.

Great post!
