Thought for Today
Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.
--Victor Borge
Have we ever envied someone his or her uninhibited laughter or joy? Have we been drawn in in spite of ourselves? Such good humor is an expression of spirituality anchored in the present.
If we find ourselves attracted to people with happy dispositions, it is a sign we are becoming healthier. We want to be in their presence, even though we may need to be passive observers most of the time. But we are learning that there is a wider perspective on life than just our own, and when we laugh at something that used to be painful, then we are learning what really matters in life.
If nothing else, we can smile. On some days, even if it feels forced, it can lighten our load. Soon smiling becomes habitual, and more happy people are attracted to us. In this way we make our lives different through our own work, and we see the power of a smile, and the power of our effort in our day.
Today, let me appreciate the value of laughter.

My sister is my A and I find it hard to laugh with her sometimes b/c it is so sad. It always amazes me how much self-focus folks have as if a good laugh is at there expense. There is a commitment that I have made to myself, which I try and honor as much as possible, and that is never to laugh at someone else's expense. Sarcasm is just another form of shaming someone but I will laugh at myself and be sure to share the goofy stuff I do and say sometimes so that my imperfections are really human-ections.
Keep your laughter as long as you can. Some day's it will be the best life preserver you can find.
Peace,
Petunia
