to want marijuana is a secret alcohol craving?

i had been drinking alcohol heavily(almost everyday) until 4 months ago. In addition to alcohol i had been using marijuana.

Now one time in 2-3 days i have craving for marijuana. I also gave it up.

in your opinion, marijuana craving is a secret alcohol craving?

I think it is a Marijuana craving if that's what your craving & a alcohol craving if that's what your craving marijuana isn't my forte but I was addicted to cocaine 4 years ago & when I gave that up I was craving that for a short time (btw I've been clean 3+ years now)

Were you craving alcohol ?

I would say it's simply addiction. Most people who are addicted to one substance can easily be addicted to another.

At the end of the day it probably doesn't matter though...cravings themselves are simply thoughts...and you can choose your reaction to them. Do you have any kind of support or recovery plan that you follow?

most likely it is another manifestation of ADDICTION.

the disease, the problem, the issue underlying it all isn't alcohol, it isn't marijuana or cocaine or heroin or pain killers.

It's addiction.

Different threads of the same cloth...

In my opinion it's all about self medication to get a particular "feeling". With alcohol it's a feeling of getting "high", sunshine in a glass, like an ice cold martini. A feeling which eventually reverses because alcohol is a depressant. So they fake you out with a "high" and then you feel "down" so you have another to get the "high" back, and another, and eventually you need the booze just to feel normal. With marijuana, although I've never done that, I gather it's more a feeling of serenity, a sort of fuggedaboudid- don't worry be happy! Stupidly gazing out the window in a fugawi haze. DUH! Serene and stupid.

For me I have to avoid both to not have to use every day. Make sense? I've smoked when not drinking and although it did not make me drink per-se, I did build a habit and smoke every day--just like my alcohol addiction (got expensive). I just choose to not. I have used opiates, speed, coke in the past and never found myself doing them daily but just don't have a need to be "high" anymore. Heck, it's medical in many states but I don't have a condition it would help...so why?

Anything that would take away that feeling of being restless, irritable and discontented. Any drug including nicotine that would hit the pleasure centers of my brain. Just for now, take away my pain of living...........

Casted all out, I am slowly coming back to life!

I agree with others here - it's most likely a craving for marijuana - I smoked daily for 30 years and my experience was that pot is highly addictive and far from harmless.

Getting off marijuana may have been easier than alcohol for me, but the cravings lasted much much longer.

I quit weed before I quit alcohol and certainly had cravings just for weed. So I would consider them separate.

Anything that gives my head that false sense of security (or whatever it is I get) is something that treats my Alcoholism; for me, I can't afford to do it!

I prefer to remain completely sober today.
