Hi ksm, have you tried quitting before? Have you tried quitting permanently? What did you do?

Hi thanks to all, Thomas I did have a month off in January dryatholon and I felt great, however my goal was the 1st Feb and I got really drunk that night and following day! I loved the freedom soberity gave me during that time, I didn't have a goal or thought each day of whether I would drink or not and it was liberating, however this week I don't have that conviction and tonight is 7 days however I am meant to go out later and my mind is in turmoil about whether I have control to stay sober

Read those very words your wrote yourself over and over. Let it sink in for awhile. It should provide you with some insight on what sobriety has in store for you. Just a thought ksm. I struggled mightily for a long time. Alcoholism is a formidable opponent. And by no means do I feel I am cured. As I get older I realize that quality of life is becoming more important than drinkin'.

Welcome to SR, ksm; sorry I missed your initial post. Congratulations on your first week of sobriety.

I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your month of sobriety in January. Sobriety has so many benefits among them the freedom you mentioned.

Stay strong; the best is yet to come.

Here's a thread (with links) that you may want to spend some time reading; there's some really good information in them.
