Isolated. Advice please ?
Hi all. Well I'm on day 17 sober. I feel ok some days a bit lost on others. I've had the odd urge to drink but nothing too strong, nothing I can't handle easily. It's the first time I have tried to give up and had some support, that support being you guys on here. At the moment SR is my only support, which I am feeling is enough. I live in a small town in France and don't speak the language well enough to attend meetings here. My only option would be to travel to a bigger town and find an English meeting, or pay for personal help. I am a little isolated. Does anyone have any advice or similar experience they could share with me ? Thanks for everything so far guys.
I kind of have had a similar experience because I tried AA but it really didn't appeal to me, and living in a small city it's AA or nothing. I don't have any great advice, although maybe getting some personal help might be a good way to go(?) If there isn't anyone in the town where you live that would suit you might consider sessions via Skype...although I know not everyone is comfortable with that medium.
I've found the support on SR has made a huge difference too. It's great we have that :-)

Hi Steve congratulations on 17 days
I live on my own in London which can be quite isolating even though there may crowds of people about and I didn't use AA because I was concerned about work finding out (wish I had used them now)
I guess the best thing for you would be to try and learn French as quickly as possible which would mean you could use local AA meetings and would lessen the general isolation so that you can be occupied in your down time which for me are the danger times

All good ideas Steve keep up the excellent work

Are there any other expats near you ? Is there some hobby or sport you enjoy that you could get back into? It doesn't have to be AA. This forum has plenty of sobriety resources, and you can always listen to AA speakers online.
