I want to share this.
I am liquidating my company and I have some high priced items that are not moving, they are things only a contractor in my line of work would use. I started calling all of these contractors in my area to speak with the owner and see if I can't sell them. I called big outfits and smaller ones. To my amazement, I have potential job opportunities left and right. I have never spoken to some of these people but we all know who each other is because we see each other's trucks driving around. The three that really caught my attention is one large outfit wants to have lunch and see if he could use me in the office, basically an Operations type position. Then I talk to these two smaller outfits who want to grow and the owners are young (in their late 20's). They have all the ambition and energy in the world but don't know how to run a business. So they are interested in speaking to me about running their business. I would either be like the President or a consultant. How cool would that be? I would love to run someone else's company. They also want to purchase my customer list and have me teach them some of the more advanced skills like constructing an engineered retaining wall, simple things like getting a permit from the city or passing inspection on large scale stuff. They admit to me they are clueless when it comes to this stuff and want to pay me. For the first time in months, I felt really satisfied and energized at the end of the day (and did not celebrate by drinking). Today was another day of possible doors opening, so I am feeling much better about things. I was very unsure about my employ-ability for awhile. It's exciting. This could be fun!
