New to the site

Hey, I'm a 26 year old male from the UK and for the past 8 or 9 years
I have struggled with alcohol- this has gotten progressively worse over time, so I have come here to see what it's all about and see if it can help.

welcome!

congratulations on your motivation to learn and try to do something about this at so young an age. I wish I'd been trying to understand addiction and alcoholism in my 20's.... instead of finally 'getting it' the hard way in my 40's.

In any case, you've come to a great place. Hang out, share, learn.

Hi & Welcome,

I knew I had a drinking problem in my 20's but I left it till now (I'm 39) to really address it. Keep reading, keep posting and you may find yourself recognising yourself in other people's posts. Time goes fast, great job for finding SR : ))

Thankyou

Thank you guys for all the welcome messages finding it really difficult at the moment not to drink on a daily basis. Hopefully with support I can achieve sobriety.

Abstinence based recovery ?

Would you say this is the only true effective way to quit alcohol after having an ongoing problem ?
