Been drinking again

Annoying.

Should have come here a few nights ago. Drinking again over the last week. Of course I want to stop and I end up getting caught in my own head.

I need to relax and stop over thinking everything! To do lists, work, trying to get on top of things (instead of accepting that life is a work in progress).

Sorry to hear that Kys. Life is a "work in progress" I think, but drinking keeps us from making any progress. Could you try something different this time around to help you stay quit?

I hope you can achieve your goal of sobriety. I believe it would be much better than being annoyed all the time. I agree that life slows down a little while sober....and its ok.

It's never helped me to start drinking again, that's for sure.

How will you be getting back on track?

One day at a time is exceptionally helpful for me on many fronts from drinking to stress management, and that then always tends to help with the bigger picture anyway.

There's no room for gray when it comes to my drinking. The other night I overheard my partner talking in their sleep about me and how distant and stressed I could be (and I know I can be like that due to having binged again overall, caught back in the rut) - that broke my heart, and it's one of many things, old and new, I'm taking with me for a sober day today.

Hi Kys -
I need to relax and stop over thinking everything! To do lists, work, trying to get on top of things (instead of accepting that life is a work in progress).
Probably, but you also need to stop turning to alcohol.

Whats your recovery plan look like, Kys?

Kys are you going out to the booze or bringing it in? That's the first step, changing that.

Was bringing it in Marcher.

To be honest Dee my recovery plan is much the same as has been. Seems to last for a while but never sticks. Feels like I'm just always going to miss something a lot of you guys get and never going to get it totally.

NS and Scott, I am trying and have turned things around so much. This just pulls me back in hard if I give in. When I'm drinkjng everything is so much harder, yet I do it - sometimes it feels like I'm too obsessive and absolute to every truly overcome this.

Kys, it sounds like you think that you are different from the rest of us here, that we have something that you don't. Untrue. That is your disease talking to you trying to convince you to give up. You can do this, never doubt that.

Kys, there really is no secret to sobriety. For myself, it was wanting to be sober more than I wanted to drink.

Took me a while to get there, but once I was willing to do anything to get and stay sober, I researched every option available to me.

Support was a big factor, I was missing that until I joined this community. Then I sought a plan, actually combined two that worked for me.

You can do this too!

Last few days have been good and if I have felt an urge I've been quick to manage, and managing usually comes pretty naturally now (and more so as time goes on).

When I'm clear and content I sometimes wonder about life choices I've made and if I should keep sticking with them (career, living situation etc.). Sometimes it's hard to gauge if something is making me unhappy and I should change it, or is it more so just going through the motions. Sometimes this stuff stresses me out and can trigger.

Alcohol always always always makes everything in life look worse and feel far more stressful than it actually is. Always. Did I say always?

Even when you're clear and contentedly thinking of life choices your AV is talking to you. Focus on getting the sobriety down solid before thinking about life choices. If you're drinking and have a plan laid out, either change the plan or work the plan. Or both. Mine changes and evolves as time goes on.

You can do this.

Sounds like you need a couple of tweaks Kys - that's all.

you need a concrete plan Kys, and the commitment to it.

Does the notion of never drinking again still scare you?

Kys, I'm so glad you've put some sober days together again. You never have to go back to the old misery. We know you can rise above the temptations.
