Welcome! Look for the first "sticky" in this newcomers' forum where you started this thread. Lots of inspiring stories from members about how they got started and how. There are many ways to do it -- therapy, medical help, self help groups that include not only AA but others like SMART Recovery, SOS, Women for Sobriety. There's a method called Rational Recovery that doesn't have any actual groups, and another called The Sinclair Method that must be medically conducted. Look around and come back anytime!
And this place is also a good place to start. Lots of great support, insight, advice, experience and guidance to be had here from people who have been through it all!
Welcome
Glad you're here, carter! That's how I got started on SR....knowing things had to change or else. I was hesitant and ashamed and very wary in the beginning but was made to feel right at home here in no time! For the first time in a very long time I felt hope and I felt like someone finally understood.
I hope you'll stick around. This place saved my life and I'm sure it can be a great source of comfort and support to you as well.

A big thanks
I appreciate y'all and I believe that making this step is a good start. I'll just have to become a bit more comfortable in sharing and learning. I know I need to get myself in check so nothing bad happens. I'm happy I just want to learn how to be happy without all the bar time not to mention the bar money. Just sayn thanks for the warm welcome
