Tip for an Anxiety Attack
Tip for an Anxiety Attack
I came across this online today and am filing it away for future use.
A great tip to help with an anxiety attack:
-Look around you.
-Find 5 things you can See
-Find 4 things you can Touch
-Find 3 things you can Hear
-Find 2 things you can Smell
- Find 1 thing you can Taste
This is called Grounding. It can help you when you feel like you have lost all control of your surroundings.

I was told something similar (but not as nice as this version). It's quite helpful for if you feel rage or despair starting to bubble up as well.
I like to include a request for a 10 second cushion between me reacting to 'stuff' throughout the day when I do my morning meditation, so that I'm less likely to say / do the wrong thing (ie. act in my 'old' ways out of habit). Doing that sensory touching-base gives me a good cushion to get back to a calm place so I can work on my perspective, and consequently, my reaction to 'stuff'.
