Please don't judge me...I need help!

Ok so I'm about to admit to something I'm not proud of. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with my third child an I am addicted to 10mg Percocet. I have gone from taking up to 6 pills a day (before I found out I was pregnant) to taking 1 to 2 pills a day nd I'm hoping to be completely off them by 8 weeks. My question is if I get off of them by 8 weeks pregnant what are my chances of my baby being born without withdrawal. Please no bashing I know i am a pos for this an I feel like one but I REALLY am trying.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Whatever happens you need to let your doctor know what is going on so they can best care for you.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to answer that question for you.

Regardless, you can only do the right thing going forward and that's what you're doing.

Welcome to the forums.

Snb welcome. Your intentions for getting off the perks are a good one. Your concern for your unborn baby's welfare speaks volumes. But there is a right way of doing it and a wrong one. The right way is the honest one. Please be honest with your doctor. Only your doctor would be able to answer these questions for you anyway. He/She may be able to put you on a slow taper if you are capable of following one. If not...there are other ways to have a safe and healthy pregnancy. Whatever you do...please don't go cold turkey...not without informing your doctor. Cold turkey puts lots of stress and strain on our bodies and when we are pregnant it can become fatal.

I did that very thing and unfortunately it put my BP sky high and close to having seizures and I was forced into having a C section three months early. Fortunately, my daughter survived but she is legally blind due to retinopathy of prematurity. So please, please do not mess around with your health and the life and welfare of your baby. Be honest with your doctor as to how to handle this! Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

Ditto on how important it is to tell your Dr. about this and he/she can give the specifics as well as guide you in how to taper down best. please talk to your Dr. before anything else.

Hi and welcome Snb201x3 - we moved your post to Newcomers forum for more responses

Like others have said, what you're asking can't really be answered by lay people, and it's really no good us guessing - you need professional opinions.

Do you have a OB/GYN Dr? Thats the person to ask.

I realise it might be awkward and maybe embarrassing to come clean about drug use, but your little one is more important than some embarrassment, I think

This is a moment in time when you have to overlook your feelings about the situation and do the right thing for your unborn child. This is not just about you Please talk to your dr and discuss the situation.

Well done for posting and seeking help, it's not easy. Nobody thinks you're a pos; it's addiction.

Get to the doctor and keep us updated

As others have said- see a Dr.

I came clean to my Dr. and she was incredibly helpful and not judgmental.

I wish you the best and congrats on your third!

Snb - welcome to the forums - you have come to a good place. I don't think you will find anyone here that will judge you, especially since you are trying to do the right thing for yourself and your unborn child.

I would start with your OB/GYN for advice, hopefully, if they do not feel qualified to advise you on tapering off the Percs - they will refer you to another doctor.

Take care and keep coming back,

Jim

Great job on reaching out for help Snb. That's tough in itself. I will echo other comments here that you should get help from your doctor.

Be strong and make the best decisions you can for your child.

Long before I quit my addiction I thought if I could just stop my lies and deceit and get honest maybe everything (namely me) would be alright. I even considered therapy for my lack of honesty rather than address my addiction.

When I finally addressed my addiction it became apparent that getting honest would help me and my addiction. Honesty was/is an integral, essential part of recovery from addiction as far as I'm concerned.

My point... Get honest with yourself and your doctor and you might just find it goes a long long way to help your baby AND you. It might turn out to be the best thing you ever did...

I wish you both well.
