Checking in and sharing my update
Hello SR community!
It's been some time since I've been on here. Lots of newcomers since my last time being a regular so I figured I would share my latest update for those starting out.
I joined this community a while back when I was really struggling with my alcoholism. After many failed attempts, I had a decent run of sobriety from November 2013 until about July 2014. It was about that time that I started to fall hard for a girl who we recently hired. She wanted nothing to do with me after leading me on for a few months and I let that be the spark that started me down a slippery slope.
As time went by, the drinking started up ever so slowly progressing back to the point it was at before. Then, one weekend I had a bender that lasted into the middle of the week. I can still clearly recall the night when I ran out of vodka and decided to just tough it out. I was shaking (so badly I accidentally scratched my eye and face) on the couch all night and was sure I was going to have some kind of heart episode. I really should have called someone at that point but I stupidly took the risk.
After that, I finally decided it was time to see my GP and let him know about my alcohol consumption, anxiety and depression. He helped me out greatly, gave me a plan of action and actually checks in with me on a regular basis. It was the best decision I made.
I tried it on my own the first time and that didn't work. For me, actually seeking medical help and getting my hands on lots of literature has been extremely helpful. Everyone is different but I just wanted to share for those who may be in a similar situation of thinking you have it figured out only to find out your plan needed adjusting. You can adjust and you can get back to being sober again. One day at a time.
Thanks all and welcome to all of those who are new here!
