Wisdom from signature lines
Wisdom from signature lines
Lots of struggles are chronicled here every day.
In the early days of sobriety and recovery, it can feel difficult to find inspiration. Or to believe that there are better days ahead.
Yet, there are inspirations right in front of us. Below, you'll find a list of quotes fellow journeyers have chosen for their signature lines. The list is by no means exhaustive, nor is there any particular order. The common denominator? Each of these signature lines was chosen by a fellow journeyer with a year or more of sobriety. I hope it offers hope to all who need it:
I'll take your part when darkness comes.
There was a new voice, which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do, determined to save the only life you could save. -- Mary Oliver
Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that isn't really you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place. - Unknown
You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Not where I need to be, not where I am going to be, but sure not where I used to be.
Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what a man does with what happens to him. -- Aldous Huxley
After a while I looked in the mirror and realized...WOW. After all those hurts, scars and bruises, after all of those trials, I really made it through. I did it. I survived that which was supposed to kill me. So I straightened my crown...and walked away like a boss.
Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is. -- Sara Bareilles
I know but one freedom, and that is the freedom of the mind - Antoine de Saint- Exupery
The reality of your life is always*now. And to realize this is liberating. In fact, I think there is nothing more important to understand if you want to be happy in this world. - Sam Harris
The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds. -- W. James
The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.
~ Isak Dinesen
You are so much more than the worst thing you've ever done. -- Fr. Greg Boyle
So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key.
- The Eagles
You can't escape until you know you're in prison
Someday everything will all make sense.
For now, laugh at confusion, smile through tears,
& remind yourself that everything happens for a reason.

I realized I could probably go on drinking like this for maybe two or three more years, or live for another two or three decades...but not both. Suddenly the choice became crystal clear.
The truth is not something to understand. It is something to be.
You raise me up... to more than I can be
If you can’t fly, then run.
If you can’t run, then walk.
If you can’t walk, then crawl,
But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward

Unfortunately, on my Android app, signatures don't show up the way they do on the vBulletin platform. A pity, since on all forums, signatures are a small stamp of personality that add to "knowing" another poster.
