Things I Don't Miss
Things I Don't Miss
I'm fairly new to recovery and glad for this site. Writing and reading on here is very helpful.
This morning as I meditated I was thinking about things I do not miss in my new sober life. Every now and then thoughts cross my mind such as "I can still drink responsibly and have fun, blah, blah, blah..."
But as those types of thoughts entered in I started to think about the things I ALREADY don't miss and here are few:
I don't miss disappointing my husband.
I don't miss disappointing my kids.
I don't miss disappointing myself.
I don't miss making a fool of myself when drinking.
I don't miss hangovers.
I don't miss using alcohol as a coping mechanism.
I don't miss spending money on alcohol.
I don't miss blacking out and ending up in ER.
I don't miss the shame.
I don't miss cloudy thinking.
I don't miss killing my brain cells.
I don't miss injuring my soul/spirit.
I don't miss wasting time.
I don't miss going to bars.
So these are just some of the things from off the top of head I don't miss. There may be more. Feel free to add to this "Don't Miss" thread!

I like this thread.
- I don't miss that regular 3-4PM thought about what I'll be drinking that evening.
- I don't miss planning my evening or whatever outings around the availability of alcohol.
- I don't miss sneaking off to drink during various points in the day.
- I don't miss not being able to pick my kids up at night because I'm buzzed.
- I don't miss being too incoherent to read, remember a movie, or play games with my kids.
- I don't miss hiding in the kitchen whenever I've had too much.
- I don't miss being full from too much beer, acid reflux from too much wine, delayed motor skills from too much gin.
- And I don't miss unplugging my social filter and saying stupid things I sometimes didn't even really think or mean.

I don't miss the terrible anxiety & panic attacks that alcohol made worse .
I don't miss not being able to answer an important phone call because I was drunk
I don't miss making up reasons why I wanted early appointments , cut into my drinking time
