First step
Good morning. This is my first time trying to get sober after 14 years of hard drinking. I've got 3 days. I'd debated stopping drinking before, and taken up to a month off, but last Friday I found myself crying on the phone to my parents and telling them I wanted to stop for good. So now I'm going to meetings, starting this network, talking to my friends and family about my alcoholism, and trying to lay the very beginnings of a foundation of sobriety.

The 1st step is where it all begins. Having a support group is very important. I can't do this on my own. Speaking with other alcoholics is also a very key part of my recovery because they understand me. People like my parents dont have the same mindset as I do and may not understand why i did or do the things i do.
Welcome to SR cabash! Sounds like you are setting a great foundation for sobriety as you say, finding and accepting support from wherever you can is key. Honesty is key too and it sounds as though you are being truthful with yourself and those around you.
SR is a fantastic place to find support, I still come here and learn something new every day after several years. Hope you can stick with us and join the conversation!

Hi and GOOD WORK!
It takes a lot to get and stay sober and it looks like your getting a good start.
After a lot of poor starts I surrounded and started to follow suggestions from sober folks and listening.
I found out that doing things suggested that I didn’t want to do were very often so beneficial overall.
Staying sober is a lot of work but so rewarding.
BE WELL
