Does anyone remember a post from an alcoholic on his feelings about becoming dad? It made a big impression on me, and gave me a bit of insight to why my husband had an even harder time after the birth of our children. .

My recollection is probably off a bit, but I what I remember realizing about my husband (from reading that father's post) was what an overwhelming responsibility he may have felt incapable of handling. And that likely increased with each child and as the disease progressed.

There are things my husband told me in the past that he could not do, or that he couldn't deal with.

I didn't listen. I couldn't hear him. I'd say"sure you can!". Such as, not being able to talk to his boss, not being able to take a vacation, and much more. I always shut it down as being his own fault, that of course he could. I didn't understand at all. Now that I've gone through being aware of and having to accept many things that I haven't mentally been able to do, I'm finding a much different outlook on this.
